Back From The Brink!   8 comments

As Barack Hussein Obama prepares to leave, I’m here to let you know I’m alive and kickin! My health is stable and for the foreseeable future it’s all green lights.

As for this blog, well it’s not coming back. At least not right now. It takes a lot of time and care to do this the right way and I have so much catching up to do IRL. Many, if not, all of you have stopped coming here and moved on to better place. Fantastic! I hope you all find what you want, what you need, what you crave: GREAT MUSIC!

WOW! It’s been almost a whole year since the last post! I simply wanted to say that I’m still here among the living and wanted to thank you for all the get well messages you sent here. Every message was read. I’m humbled and blessed to have so many well wishers. May these holiday times find you all in good spirits. I give thanks to the Universe that where I live our biggest concern is only Donald Trump. My prayers, sympathies and well wishes go out to the people of Syria who are under terrible siege, and to all the displaced millions around the world who are finding it very difficult getting their next meal or a swallow of clean water. May the Universal spirit guide them and comfort them.

Until we meet again.

It’s Hard Saying Goodbye   15 comments

I hope everyone had a great and prosperous holiday season. For many of you it’s time to turn back toward the serious persuit of life’s meaning and everything it entails.

Unfortunately due to the nature of my illness I am not able to continue along with the wonderful members that have supported this blog. Despite the ups and downs I really enjoyed bringing the music I loved to appreciative people who never seemed to get enough, and though I have much more to give, my health refuses to cooperate. I was hoping to make up for the missed month of December with a January that would knock headphones from ears and frazzle def sound systems. In my mind I’ll be dreaming about that

To all who enjoyed the almost 4 year journey, thanks for the ride. You have given me the chance to stretch my musical horizons and taught me things about music I would otherwise have been blindly ignorant to. It’s tough to say goodbye…

My Point of View and Inventions and Dimensions found Herbie
Hancock exploring the fringes of hard bop, working with a big band and
a Latin-flavored percussion section, respectively. On Empyrean Isles,
he returns to hard bop, but the results are anything but conventional.
Working with cornetist Freddie Hubbard, bassist Ron Carter, and
drummer Tony Williams — a trio just as young and adventurous as he
was — Hancock pushes at the borders of hard bop, finding a brilliantly
evocative balance between traditional bop, soul-injected grooves, and
experimental, post-modal jazz. Hancock’s four original concepts are
loosely based on the myths of the Empyrean Isles, and they are
designed to push the limits of the band and of hard bop. Even
“Cantaloupe Island,” well-known for its funky piano riff, takes chances
and doesn’t just ride the groove. “The Egg,” with its minimal melody
and extended solo improvisations, is the riskiest number on the record,
but it works because each musician spins inventive, challenging solos
that defy convention. In comparison, “One Finger Snap” and “Oliloqui
Valley” adhere to hard bop conventions, but each song finds the
quartet vigorously searching for new sonic territory with convincing fire.
That passion informs all of Empyrean Isles, a record that officially
established Hancock as a major artist in his own right.

Out Of The Insane Asylum   22 comments

I’ve ESCAPED! But there’re looking for me! The Straight Jacket Brigade is hot on my ass so I had to get at least the Dells re-up posted.

Seriously, I know I’ll be going back in. Liver problems don’t just heal on their own. I had to get the f#%k out of there if only to be in friendly surroundings. I want to thank everyone who well wished me. It gave me the strength to defy my doctors and check myself out. Now it’s time to get my affairs in order. Hope to speak with you all soon! 😀

Also known as Blues A La Carte, this Vee Jay disc has tenor-
saxophonist Wayne Shorter’s first session as a leader and it shows
that, even at this early stage, Shorter was far along toward developing
his own sound. Teamed up with trumpeter Lee Morgan, pianist
Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Jimmy Cobb, the
six selections (five of which are Shorter originals) capture the young
tenor shortly after he joined Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. The music
is essentially hard bop and, although none of these Shorter tunes
caught on, the music is quite enjoyable. A special treat is the one
standard of the date, a swinging version of “Mack The Knife.

This album is certain to be placed in the MJQ section of any shop that
carries it. In reality though, only four of the cuts here feature the
permanent, stand-alone, 1952-vintage Modern Jazz Quartet; the other
eight having been done in the summer and fall of 1951, when they
were still known as the Milt Jackson Quartet, with Jackson providing all
of the original material. The differences are so subtle as to be
indistinguishable — Milt Jackson and John Lewis are on every cut, while
Al Johns subs for Kenny Clarke on drums, and Ray Brown precedes
Percy Heath on four of the tracks. Clarke’s drumming is more
impressive in its quiet way, but Ray Brown’s bass work is simpler and
more forceful. The sound is fair, with some hints of distortion that’s
been repaired, on this otherwise nicely done reissue. [The 2003
reissue on Savoy Jazz changed the title of the original album to
Beginnings and added two bonus tracks: a 1949 version of
“Bluesology” by Milt Jackson, and a large group featuring Billy Mitchell
on sax and Roy Haynes on drums, and a 1954 version of “Blues
Mood” by Kenny Clarke with Milt Jackson and Percy Heath.]

There are a multitude of reasons why Bags’ Groove remains a
cornerstone of the post-bop genre. Of course there will always be the
lure of the urban myth surrounding the Christmas Eve 1954 session —
featuring Thelonious Monk — which is documented on the two takes of
the title track. There are obviously more tangible elements, such as
Davis’ practically telepathic runs with Sonny Rollins (tenor sax). Or
Horace Silver’s (piano) uncanny ability to provide a stream of chord
progressions that supply a second inconspicuous lead without ever
overpowering. Indeed, Davis’ choice of former Dizzy Gillespie
Orchestra and concurrent Modern Jazz Quartet members Milt Jackson
(vibes), Kenny Clarke (drums), and Percy Heath (bass) is obviously
well-informed. This combo became synonymous with the ability to
tastefully improvise and provide bluesy bop lines in varied settings. The
up-tempo and Latin-infused syncopation featured during the opening of
“Airegin” flows into lines and minor-chord phrasings that would reappear
several years later throughout Davis’ Sketches of Spain epic. The fun
and slightly maniacally toned “Oleo” features one of Heath’s most
impressive displays on Bags’ Groove. His staccato accompaniment
exhibits the effortless nature with which these jazz giants are able to
incorporate round after round of solos onto the larger unit. Bags’
Groove belongs as a cornerstone of all jazz collections. Likewise, the
neophyte as well as the seasoned jazz enthusiast will find much to
discover and rediscover throughout the disc. The remastered CD
includes both historic takes of “Bags’ Groove” as well as one additional
rendering of the pop standard “But Not for Me.”

Remember School House Rock’s “Conjunction Junction?” Here’s the weird voice behind it.
Dave wrote “Peel Me A Grape”. This guy is witty, flaky, funny and hip. He’s rare, like a

Sure, the guy’s got a whole bunch of albums out, covering all different parts
of his career, all kinds of collaborators, but this is the gold mine, the lodestar.
This is what you’re looking for – it’s all the best songs (up to when the album
was recorded, of course, so missing a few nuggets like “Quality Time” and
“Catbird Seat”), performed with great elan and style by Dave and a solid bass
and drums. The focus is on the wonderful songs and Dave’s unmatchable
piano playing, and of course there’s that fabulous Frishberg croak to
navigate you through this fanciful and festive effluvia. Sure, the songs are
unclassifiable, the language is some sort of strange post-bop hipster jive, but
there’s so much heart and talent and prodigious prestidigitation and simple
love for the art of songwriting and music that the work easily transcends the
“jazz” and “cabaret” labels that get affixed to it. But I’m not telling you what
you don’t already know – the guy’s one of a kind, and the kind is not likely to
reproduce, so pick this up and dig it. He is hip, he’s no square.

I have to admit I was suspicious of the hype surrounding Diana Krall’s
“Love Scenes.” Just about everybody loves her. Almost overnight,
Diana Krall became synonymous with “jazz singer,” just as Frank
McCourt became synonymous with “Irish writer” after the publication
of “Angela’s Ashes.” I suspect this caused a backlash among some
jazz fans who (partly because of the nature of jazz, constantly
rebuilding upon itself) are especially conversant in jazz lineage and
eager to compare styles.

Well, just as Frank McCourt is not the last word in Irish literature,
Diana Krall is decidedly not Billie Holiday (a ridiculous comparison) or
Sarah Vaughan. In fact, not knowing too many other jazz vocalists
might even enhance your appreciation of “Love Scenes.” You have to
appreciate her on her own terms; fortunately, this is easy to do.

So why is she getting the attention? For starters, her subtle intonations
and phrasing make ordinary words sound onomatopoetic: Listen to
“Garden in the Rain,” and you’ll hear the crisp fresh sound of
springtime. Her vocal dynamics are superb, knowing when to pull back
and when to let her voice soar. And her acheingly beautiful “I Don’t
Stand A Ghost of a Chance with You” is the best version I’ve heard
since Clifford Brown’s instrumental masterpiece.

“Peel Me a Grape” is fun and sexy, but you’d have to be a bad singer
to ruin Dave Frishberg’s (1962) clever list of double entendres! (“New
Thunderbird me, you heard me.”) Still, Ms. Krall delivers the goods,
and teasingly drops a couple of words as she stretches the phrase
“Peel Me….”

Her remarkable swinging but subtle piano can be overlooked: Just listen
to the confidently daring solos on “They Can’t Take That Away from
Me” and “How Deep is the Ocean (How High is the Sky)” and you’ll
appreciate her artistry. The arrangements, as well as the comping on
guitar (Russell Malone) and bass (Christian McBride) are consistently
strong.

She’s not as complex or as blues-inflected as other vocalists, but she
IS a superb jazz singer. Like the best jazz musicians, she adds new
colors and shadings to standards, and swings both vocally and
instrumentally. She is less the jazz vocalist on her recent “When I Look
Into Your Eyes,” which is overproduced, apparently overdubbed, and
veers way too close to a bland pop style. Let’s hope that future
efforts are closer to “Love Scenes,” a deservedly much praised album.

Featuring songs produced by Larry Alexander and Skip Scarborough,
Sing a Song is the late R&B singer Phyllis Hyman’s sophomore album
for Buddah Records. Though it was not released in the US, some of
the tracks did appear on her Arista debut, Somewhere in My Lifetime,
in 1979. A duet with Michael Henderson, “Can’t We Fall in Love Again,”
reappeared in a longer version as the title track of her third Arista
album in 1981. Another duet with Michael, “We Both Need Each
Other,” also appeared on Norman Connors’ 1976 album You Are My
Starship. “Gonna Make Changes” was penned by Phyllis herself and
became one of her best-known songs.

by Justin Kantor

Boosted heavily by the presence of renowned players like Ray Parker,
Jr., Patrice Rushen, Stevie Wonder and Emilio Castillo, LaToya Jackson
became the fifth family member to record solo with this generally
satisfying 1980 LP. She does best with uptempo numbers, with the
straightforward romp “If You Feel the Funk” and the peppy “Save
Your Love” serving as highlights. “If You Feel the Funk” is a well-
chosen opener, with its enticing vocal arrangement, sturdy rhythm
patterns and a memorable guitar solo from Parker seeping into the
brain instantly; “Save Your Love” picks up the pace a little but is more
concentrated melodically. Another primer is “Nighttime Lover,” a softly
seductive, simultaneously kinetic number produced by brother Michael.
Otherwise, there aren’t any other equally strong moments, though the
snappy “Are You Ready,” co-written and also recorded by Billy Ocean,
is fairly impressionable. Vocally, Jackson doesn’t have a lot of weight,
but she has an obvious enthusiasm for the songs that comes through
consistently. That factor, along with the strong cast of musicians and
some memorable tunes, makes this an overall enjoyable set. The filler
material is worth skipping past to soak in the finer moments.

Most of the songs on Soul Hits of the 70s: Didn’t It Blow Your Mind,
Vol. 10 date from early 1973, and by that time, ’70s soul had begun
to fracture slightly, with the funk getting funkier and the smooth soul
becoming even more polished than before. In fact, most soul singles
had slick productions, even if the beats were hot. Nevertheless, the
slickness hadn’t turned into gloss, and the polished productions were
certainly part of the appeal of songs like the Brighter Side of Darkness’
“Love Jones,” the Four Tops’ “Ain’t No Woman (Like the One I’ve
Got),” First Choice’s “Armed and Extremely Dangerous,” the
Independents’ “Leaving Me,” New York City’s “I’m Doin’ Fine Now”
and Sylvia’s silly seduction “Pillow Talk.” There is funk on Vol. 10, in the
form of two classic singles, Curtis Mayfield’s “Superfly” and War’s “The
World is a Ghetto,” but smoothness reigns, and the disc makes a
convincing argument that it’s just as soulful as grit.

I’ve had this on tape for many years (actually my wife – girlfriend then I
think? – gave this to me and I still have it and cherish it), and what a sweet
one it is. This album didn’t do so well for some reason here in the U.S. but it
really should’ve. Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes were potent on all the cuts,
but in particular, “I Really Love You” and “Time Be My Lover” are exceptional
ballads. If you want to hear quintesential “Harold” this is it man…All the riffs
and style you know from his other greats are smoothed out in “I Really Love
You.” I’m really surprised you don’t still hear this on soul radio, what a love
song from a voice that brought you so many goodies. The rest of the album is
nice too, and I absolutely love the guy that replaced Teddy Pendergrass,
excellent choice, sounds so much like him. Saw them in person a while back
and they did not dissapoint. Harold Melvin was still there then and they were
powerful, like their days of old. Anyway, get this CD if you can. It’s one that
got away without proper appreciation for how good it really is. Believe me,
you won’t be dissapointed. -MB
———————————————————————
This album is not the typical Philly Classic sound. Programmed drums, 100 different
producers, arrangers & guitar players, bass players with bass synths, programmed
strings…still, there’s some Philly soul to be found here and Harold is in good form.
There are a couple of standouts on here –“Time Be My Lover”, “I Really Love
You”, “What We Both Need (Is Love)”– that float you back to days past and there
are some familiar names like Bunny Sigler, Norman Harris & Jack Faith who did
work on the album. This was the group’s last album together.

The Teddy Pendergrass soundalike isn’t named outright. At first I thought Teddy &
Harold had kissed and made up, yet TP isn’t credited anywhere on the back and with
an ego as huge as Teddy’s, he would’ve demanded his name be prominently displayed.
The cat is one of the Blue Notes. It’s your guess as to who. He’s a dead ringer for
Pendergrass. Listen to the title cut or “Today’s Your Lucky Day” or “What We Both
Need (Is Love)” and swear that’s not him. Oh, btw, the female singer on tracks 5 & 6
is NOT Stephanie Mills. Her name is Nikko. — (Dap, AJP)

Motown’s Berry Gordy had great expectations for High Inergy, a girl
group built around sisters Barbara and Vernessa Martin. Gordy felt that
the group would match—and even exceed—the success of The
Supremes. Sure, that’s some fine quality on his part—but considering
his reputation, perhaps he was right. In 1977, they released their
debut album, Turnin’ On. It was an excellent effort, and that the
album made the top forty charts is proof that maybe the man knew a
good thing when he heard it.

Musically, Turnin’ On is mainly upbeat R&B, something of a throwback
to Gordy’s success, but with a contemporary flare. The album’s two
singles, “You Can’t Turn Me Off (In The Middle of Turning Me On)”
and “Love Is All You Need” were chart successes, with the former
taking the band into the top twenty. The rest of the album is equally
enjoyable fare; “Could This Be Love” and “Save It For A Rainy Day”
are mellow groovers, “High School” feels like a companion to The
Sylvers’ hit from the previous year, “High School Dance,” while “Let Me
Get Close To You” is a fine romantic ballad.

Unfortunately, changes would occur shortly after the album’s release,
when Vernessa Martin decided to leave the group; though they would
continue on and release seven more albums before they disbanded in
1983, none of said albums or the singles from them would match the
success of their debut. Still, Turnin’ On is a fine record, and proof that
High Inergy lived up to the hype.

Before Stacy Lattisaw and Johnny Gill, there was Curtis Mayfield and
Linda Clifford, and even though I am more familiar with Curtis’s work,
this was still a pleasing disc to follow. It was two cd’s. The first disc
was the first duets by Curtis & Linda, including the mega ballad, at
least for me, BETWEEN YOU BABY AND ME. After all these years, it
still sounds good. The other songs I wasn’t used to, but they all made
an impression on me. This duo was on it. The remaining songs were
solos by Curtis and Linda. I wasn’t very versed in Linda, but after
hearing them, it was clear that she was in her disco movement and
started to jam with her. The second disc was called RAPPIN’, and it
was commentary fro Curtis. He talked about war and peace, the
SUPERFLY movement, heaven and hell, what he would’ve done with
his life had he not gone into music an why he never went there….it
was very informative. A total of 24 minutes, he had a lot to say, and I
didn’t mind listening. All in all, it was very throwback, which is what I
needed.

Soul Hits of the 70s: Didn’t It Blow Your Mind, Vol. 8 nearly matches
the highs of such previous volumes as three and nine, offering a set
of 12 classic and underappreciated gems from 1972. It’s one of the
funkiest discs in the series, with the hot, burning funk of Joe Tex’s “I
Gotcha” and the Jimmy Castor Bunch’s “Troglodyte (Cave Man)”
sitting next to the more seductive funk of Isaac Hayes “Do Your
Thing.” But what makes the collection so compulsively listenable is that
those cuts are balanced by terrific pop-soul (Honey Cone’s “The Day I
Found Myself,” Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me,” the Cornelius Brothers &
Sister Rose’s “Too Late to Turn Back Now” and “Don’t Ever Be Lonely
(A Poor Little Fool Like Me)”), smooth soul (Frederick Knight’s “I’ve
Been Lonely for So Long”) and updated variations on gritty, gospel-
inflected Southern soul (the Staple Singers’ “I’ll Take You There,”
Luther Ingram’s “(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want to Be Right”
and Joe Simon’s “Power of Love”). The end result is yet another
essential soul collection from one of the finest soul series ever
assembled.

Soul Hits of the 70s: Didn’t It Blow Your Mind, Vol. 7 is more uneven
than its immediate predecessor, weakened by a handful of merely
passable tracks, but there are more than enough great moments to
make it necessary for any comprehensive soul collection. One of the
highlights of the collection is a pair of songs from the Honey Cone
(“One Monkey Don’t Stop No Show, Pt. 1”) and Betty Wright (“Clean
Up Woman”), which are terribly funky and, in the case of Wright,
righteously indignant. The Chakachas’ “Jungle Fever” is a hilarious,
Latin-flavored groove, and Dennis Coffey & the Detroit Guitar Band’s
“Scorpio” is nearly as hot. And the four best smooth soul singles here
— Joe Simon’s “Drowning in the Sea of Love,” Bobby Womack’s
“That’s the Way I Feel About Cha,” the Dramatics’ “In the Rain” and
the Chi-Lites’ “Oh Girl” — are classics, making up for whatever
weaknesses there may be on the collection.

Smooth Grooves: A Sensual Collection, Vol. 4 collects more seductive slow
jams and quiet storm ballads, including the Gap Band’s “Outstanding,” Marvin
Gaye’s “Sexual Healing,” the Mary Jane Girls’ “All Night Long,” and the Isley
Brothers’ “Between the Sheets.” Tracks by Debra Laws, Mtume, Patrice
Rushen, and Betty Wright are among the other highlights of this set, which
does an admirable job of collecting popular and lesser-known singles from
these sensual styles.

Prince & The New Power Generation – Sexy MF (1992)   3 comments

Prince & The New Power Generation – Sexy MF
Bonus Tracks “Strollin'” & “Daddy Pop”

“Sexy MF” is a single released on June 30, 1992, by Prince and The
New Power Generation, from the Love Symbol album. The B-side was “Strollin'”, from
the previous year’s Diamonds and Pearls. The UK CD single had a third track, “Daddy
Pop”, also from Diamonds and Pearls. The song (named after the chorus line “You sexy
motherfucker”) caused some controversy, and an edited version, “Sexy Mutha,” was
created for radio and the music video, as well as the “clean version” of the U.S.
album.

“Sexy MF” is a merger of “old school” funk with modern R&B music. The song is built
around the drums and bass, though the bass-line is somewhat subdued. Added to this is a
consistent electric rhythm guitar undertone and horn stabs from the NPG Hornz.
Throughout the song, the horns are given the chance to shine, along with a sax solo
from Brian Gallagher. Musical solos are also provided by Levi Seacer, Jr. (guitar) and
Tommy Barbarella (organ). The music and most of the lyrics were composed by Prince,
while Seacer came up with the chorus and the song’s title. Tony M. delivers a rap which
he wrote. Recently, it has been covered by the Dave Matthews Band as a segue into their
hit “Jimi Thing.”

Invisible Man’s Band – All Night Thing (1979)   4 comments

Invisible Man’s Band – All Night Thing

The Invisible Man’s Band

In 1979, Keni (Burke) teamed up with brothers Clarence, Jr. (who first had the idea to
form a new group); James; and Dennis along with keyboardist/synth player Dean Gant to
record an album under the moniker The Invisible Man’s Band. Featured on this self-titled debut,
released in 1980 by Mango/Island Records, was the heavily discofied hit “All Night
Thing,” which returned the Burke brothers to the top ten on the R&B chart. The tune
also cracked the top 50 on the pop chart. Several other singles were released from this
album throughout 1980, but they could not replicate the success of the first hit.

The following year, the band switched to the Boardwalk label to release a follow-up
album, Really Wanna See You. While the title track and “Rated X” were released as
singles, neither single made an impression on the charts, and the album was not nearly
as successful as its predecessor.

While no further full-length albums were released under the “Invisible Man’s Band”
name, the group later released one final single, “Sunday Afternoon”, on the Move ‘N
Groove Record Label in 1983.

Rodney Franklin – The Groove (1980)   Leave a comment

Rodney Franklin – The Groove
Bonus Track “Windy City”

Rodney Franklin‘s debut CBS album was In The Center (1978), a jazz fusion album
featuring “On the Path” and “I Like the Music Make It Hot”. Although aged 20 when he
recorded the album, he had already developed his own sound which was influenced by McCoy
Tyner and George Duke, Chick Corea and Lonnie Liston Smith.

In 1980 the album You’ll Never Know saw some major chart success with “The Groove” (it
reached number 7 in the UK Singles Chart). The track was released on both 7″ and 12″
format. It created a UK dance craze called ‘The Freeze’ which was started up by DJ Chris
Hill.

Shannon – Let the Music Play (Original 12″ Version) (1983)   Leave a comment

Shannon – Let the Music Play (Original 12″ Version)
Bonus Track “Give Me Tonight (Dub Version)”

“Let The Music Play” is a song by American singer Shannon. The song was the first of
Shannon’s four #1s on the US Dance chart, reaching the top spot in November 1983.[2] The
song also became a huge crossover hit, peaking at #2 on the soul chart and #8 on the US
Singles Chart in February 1984.[3] Some mark this as the beginning of the dance-pop era.
“Let the Music Play” was Shannon’s only US Top 40 hit. It was ranked 43rd on the 2009 VH1
Special 100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the 1980s. This song was slated to appear in Dance Central 3.

The original version of the record was produced by Mark Liggett and Chris Barbosa.

Gwen Guthrie – Padlock (A Larry Levan Remix) (1983)   Leave a comment

Gwen Guthrie – Padlock (A Larry Levan Remix)
Bonus Tracks: “Hopscotch”, “Peanut Butter”, “Getting Hot” & “7th Heaven”

As Gwen Guthrie‘s solo career developed, she worked extensively with Sly and Robbie on
dub-influenced club cuts, and began racking up dance hits. She was dubbed “The First Lady
of the Paradise Garage” as several of her songs became anthems at the venue, helped by
the frequent and dynamic performances she gave there. She soon teamed musically with
famed Paradise Garage DJ Larry Levan, and recorded her first major landmark hit,
“Padlock” in 1983 with the Compass Point All Stars in Nassau, Bahamas which became a club
and radio hit two years later. She also sang back up on Madonna’s debut album from 1982.

Guthrie is probably best known for her 1986 dance anthem “Ain’t Nothin’ Goin’ on But the Rent”.

Love Unlimited Orchestra – Theme from ‘King Kong’ (1977)   Leave a comment

Love Unlimited Orchestra – Theme from ‘King Kong’ (1977)

Barry White’s Love Unlimited Orchestra scored a minor dance hit with this version of the
John Barry-composed theme from 1977’s “King Kong.” Though the song didn’t soar to the
very top of the charts as did “Love’s Theme,” this song features sweeping strings,
driving bass lines, and all the other ingredients that catergorized a White song.

The orchestra’s interpretation can be found on 1979’s “Super Movie Themes – Just a little
bit different” which also included disco-fied versions of John Williams’ “The Theme from
Superman”, “Night Fever,” Isaac Hayes’ “Theme from Shaft” and the classic “As Time Goes
By,” among others.
